Pupil stabbed by high school junior

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - An elementary pupil was stabbed by a junior high school student during class in the Usmad Elementary School in Barangay Usmad, Argao town, yesterday morning.

The victim, a 14-year-old Grade 6 student, suffered a stab wound in his back and was brought to the Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao but later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The suspect, Oliver Sameron, 22, a resident of sitio Malakurong and a third year student of the Usmad National High School, voluntarily surrendered to former barangay councilman Rolando Amarillo after the incident.

Erlinda Alvarracen, the adviser of the victim, said that she was checking the Regional Achievement Test at her table when she saw Sameron outside the classroom looking in.

Alvarracen asked what he wanted and Sameron replied he was looking for the victim so he can apologize for their altercation the other night.

Alvarracen said when Sameron saw the victim stand up from his seat the suspect entered the classroom and stabbed the victim once in the back with a knife and fled by jumping over the perimeter fence.

Police Officer 2 Bernie Lao of the Argao Police Station said that the quarrel between the victim and suspect started after the victim refused to lend his flashlight to the suspect while they were drinking.

Sameron asked to borrow the flashlight so he could catch small frogs.

“Basin para iwag kay manakop man kuno unta og baki aron siguro sumsuman nila,” Lao said added that both were pacified by their friends.

A frustrated murder case will be filed against Sameron who is now detained in the Argao police stockade. (FREEMAN)
