Mike using Barugg for pol propaganda
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City south district Rep. Tomas Osmeña yesterday lashed anew at his successor, Mayor Michael Rama, saying the latter is wasting government’s money for his own political propaganda.
Osmeña was referring to the city’s newsletter Bayanihan Advocates Rallying for Unity and Good Governance or BARUGG, which, he said is a “political propaganda machine” of the mayor.
The congressman was at the office of the Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young yesterday for a lunch after the inauguration of the vice mayor’s office at the Legislative Building.
Prior the interview, Osmeña was seen with his allied councilors at the office of Young. Rama was also there.
BARUGG’s publication cost the city P124,000, which was taken from the mayor’s discretionary funds.
“What for? It’s all designed for propaganda and character assassination,” Osmeña said.
The former mayor added there is already the media covering the daily press conference, activities and among other affairs of the City Hall everyday and he finds it no longer necessary for newsletter.
“Naa’y free, wala’y gasto. Anhi gyud siya sa mogasto. It’s all nothing but propaganda,” Osmeña said.
Rama was unfazed by criticisms he got for coming up with a monthly newsletter, which was launched Monday.
The mayor explained it is not a waste of money and it’s primary purpose is for the city’s constituents to know what the city is doing.
Because of the falling out between the former close allies, Osmeña said he will no longer give his support to Rama in the 2013 election.
“I’m not obligated to support him by 2013. My obligation is done,” Osmeña said, adding that he endorsed Rama in 2010 despite the clamour of some barangay captains not to endorse him.
Osmeña, the founder of the BOPK, acknowledged that he is having problems in his relationship with Rama, who has been a long time and one of the loyal members of the group since the latter started as city councilor in 1992. (FREEMAN)
