Man, 90, accused of raping woman, 76

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A 76-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a 90-year-old widower inside the house of the victim in the mountain barangay of Vito, Minglanilla town, last February 17.

A rape case was already filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office last Monday against the suspect.

The victim alleged that she was about to boil water in their dirty kitchen when she was suddenly embraced tightly by the suspect from behind.

The victim alleged that she tried to fight back but failed since the suspect was stronger.

In the first attempt the suspect allegedly failed because he could not have an erection, but he was eventually able to rape her before leaving.

Police Officer 2 Hazel Tuazon of Women’s and Children’s Desk in Minglanilla said before the incident the victim and her husband were planting trees in a lot they owned several meters away from their house.

The victim decided to go home to boil water and to prepare dinner when the suspect, who was allegedly hiding in a corner, went to grab her.

“Nisukol man siya pero dako man ang suspect unya gamay man siya nga babaye wa siya kadaog,” Tuazon told The Freeman.

The husband went to the house of the suspect after his wife told him what happened but the suspect was not around. The couple decided to go to the police station and file a complaint.

The victim was brought to the Pink Room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for a medical examination and found out to have been sexually assaulted.

Tuazon said they still have to wait for the recommendation of the fiscal’s office whether or not to detain the suspect when he is found. – (FREEMAN)
