CEBU, Philippines - A man who came from a disco was in critical condition after he was shot by a security guard yesterday at about 2:30 in the morning at sitio Lub-ang, barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City.
Meanwhile, a man was found with gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body along the road of sitio Hilltop, barangay Lagtang, Talisay City about 3:45 in the morning yesterday.
In the Mandaue incident, victim Junrey Narcico, 19, sustained a gunshot wound in the left portion of his back. The bullet exited through his chest. He was taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where he is still under observation.
Arrested and detained in barangay Casuntingan, Station 4 police stockade was Almer Joseph Catayong, 29, a native of Butuan, Eastern Samar and temporarily residing at barangay Pagsabungan.
Police investigation disclosed that Narcico was walking home from a benefit dance when he passed by the suspect, who along with five companions was drinking along the road.
Right after Narcico passed by the group, Catayong suddenly pulled out his service shotgun and fired.
Catayong surrendered to the responding policemen while his companions fled. No evidence was recovered.
According to a 17-year-old witness, he saw Catayong shot the victim. The witness said he was only 10 meters away when it happened.
Catayong was not on duty at his assignment at a rattan and stone factory in barangay Tingub during the incident.
Lambayan said they are still waiting for the family of the victim to file appropriate charges against the suspect.
In a separate incident, a man was found with gunshot wounds at sitio Hilltop, barangay Lagtang, Talisay City about 3:45 in the morning yesterday.
Edmund Romares, 31, was found with gunshot wounds in his face, chest, left armpit and left leg. He was rushed to the Talisay District Hospital but attending physician Dr. Paulina Dimpas declared him dead on arrival.
Police Officer 3 Edwin Alvarado of Talisay City Police Station said that somebody called their office to inform them about a victim of a shooting incident.
Residents nearby said they heard gunfire before the victim was discovered.
Policemen recovered two empty shells and a slug of caliber .45 pistol at the crime scene.
Alvarado said they have yet to investigate. The victim was a member of Akhro fraternity. (FREEMAN)
