CEBU, Philippines - The Visayan Electric Co. Inc. recently donated a brand new library kit to pupils of Balud Elementary School in San Fernando town.
The library kit, which is composed of a new book shelf, 52 sets of flash cards, 93 books including seven sets of science encyclopedias, a Filipino dictionary, English dictionaries, thesaurus, National Geographic Kid’s Almanac 2011, a globe and communication books for grades 1 to 6, benefits 697 grade school pupils.
Eric Ching, Veco’s Community Relations manager, said this is just the beginning of more educational assistance that Veco will grant to schools that need them as part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility.
BES principal, Herminia Suaring, assured Veco officials they will take care of the books and other materials donated to them.
“I thank the Lord for answering my prayers. I did not expect it to come right away through Veco,” Suaring said.
Ching told the students and teachers to use the books for learning because books are never meant for decoration. Veco committed to constantly check the usage of the materials and when the latter become old and dilapidated, Veco will refurbish the kit. (FREEMAN)
