- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - Three men were killed while two others were injured after a motorcycle collided with a mini-bus along the national highway of Barangay Sangat, San Fernando town, last Sunday about 9:30 p.m.

Dead on the spot due to massive head injuries were Martino Nuyad, 21, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City; and Dionisio Tatoy, of Barangay Balungag, San Fernando. Bercede Bacalso was still alive when rushed to the South General Hospital in Naga City where he died about 4:30 a.m. yesterday. The three were on the motorcycle.

Fidel Macasapac, 28, also of Balungag, suffered a left knee fracture and a head injury while Leonardo Reyes, 45, a resident of Manalili St., Cebu City suffered contusions and minor injuries. Reyes was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

The Honda motorcycle with license plate number YU-9793 driven by Nuyad together with his three friends was bound for Minglanilla from Barangay Villadolid, Carcar when the incident happened.

The mini-bus with license plate number GWR-583 was driven by Reyes heading to Carcar City from Cebu City.

Senior Insp. Carlos Reyes, chief of San Fernando Police Station said the motorcycle was traveling at high speed when Nuyad tried to maneuver left and encroached into the opposite lane at a blind curve.

Reyes who did not immediately recognize the coming motorcycle tried to apply brakes but Nuyad was already hit and dragged some meters away.

Inspector Reyes said that mini-bus driver tried to avoid the motorcycle but its left front tire exploded.

“Wan-a siya ka-control sa steering wheel kay nibuto na iyang ligid,” Reyes told The FREEMAN.

Nuyad and Tatoy died while Bacalso was still rushed to the hospital. Reyes sustained bruises and eye injuries after pieces of the broken windshield hit his eyes.

Inspector Reyes said the incident totaled the motorcycle and damaged the front left portion and broke the windshield of the mini-bus.

He added that Nuyad and his companions just came from a friend’s house in Villadolid and were allegedly drunk.

“Gisuwayan man ni sila og hold nga dili paulion kay hubog pero ganahan gyud manguli,” Insp. Reyes said.

The cadavers of the victims are now in the Tupas Funeral Homes in Carcar City. —(FREEMAN)
