Newsboy stabbed

CEBU, Philippines - A newsboy was injured after he was stabbed by a fellow newsboy who reportedly got irked at him over a customer last Saturday morning in front of the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Avenue, Cebu City.

Police identified the victim as Talaheb Calumpiano, 25, single and a resident of Unit 5 in Oppra, Barangay Kalunasan while the suspect was Benjie Alvarico, 18, a neighbor of the victim.

Investigation showed that the victim was selling newspapers in front of the terminal around 9 a.m. last Saturday when he entertained a certain customer and eventually sold a newspaper. The suspect, who also sells newspapers, got irked as the man was his customer. He claimed to have lost an old customer to the victim.

The two had an argument and later on figured into a brief fistfight.

The suspect left the place and moments later, came back already armed with a sharp-pointed weapon he used in stabbing the victim.

The victim, who was hit on his chest, was taken to the nearby Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect was timely arrested by PO2 Vincent Zozobrado, who is detailed at the bus terminal.

The suspect was turned over to the Homicide Section and is now detained at the detention cell. — (FREEMAN)
