CEBU, Philippines - A septuagenarian died after he was accidentally hit by speeding motorcycle in Barangay Cabulihan, Toledo City yesterday morning.
Police identified the fatality as Luis Bacos Cantiberos, 77, married, and a resident of the barangay. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Edwin Ubanos, 46, married and a resident of Barangay Magdugo, also in Toledo City.
Investigation showed that the victim was about to cross the road when he was hit by the Yamaha STX motorcycle bearing plate number 6626-FG driven by Ubanos.
Due to the impact, Lastimosa was thrown to the pavement several meters away and hit his head on the concrete road. He was already unconscious when brought to the Toledo City District Hospital. He was declared dead on arrival.
The attending physician said Lastimosa sustained severe head contusions and bruises on different parts of his body.
SPO4 Gil Lastimosa of the Toledo City Police said Ubanos was driving very fast that he was not able to step on his breaks when Cantiberos crossed the road.
Ubanos voluntarily surrendered to the police and is now in detention while awaiting the formal filing of charges against him tomorrow. (FREEMAN)
