"Saddam" shoots man dead in Mambaling

CEBU, Philippines - A man died after he was shot by his neighbor whom he allegedly punched earlier in Sitio Puntod, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City.

Ernesto Zamora, 40, died of four gunshot wounds to his body perpetrated by a man identified only as a certain “Saddam”. According to PO2 Julius Regis of the Homicide Section, the victim was walking home past 10 a.m. yesterday when the suspect, who was just waiting for him ahead, opened fire at him. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds in his left side of the body, abdomen and neck. He died on the spot while the suspect fled.

The victim’s cadaver is now at the Sure Life Funeral Homes.

Regis said that prior to the incident, the victim punched the suspect in the face over a heated argument. The suspect went home and minutes later went out to shoot the victim.

Police believed the suspect used a revolver because there were no empty shells recovered from the crime scene and the slugs were most likely embedded in the victim’s body.

Meanwhile, a couple was ambushed by unidentified men on a motorcycle yesterday about 2 a.m. in Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete town, while on their way to the market. Victims Godfredo Great, 60, sustained a gunshot wound in his left and right portion of his back while his wife Rosalina, 60, sustained a gunshot wound in her left arm. Both were rushed to the Dalaguete District Hospital and are now out of danger.

According to SPO1 Veronico Centino of Dalaguete Police Station, the couple was outside their house and about to go to the public market when a motorcycle suddenly stopped behind them and one of the riders repeatedly shot them. Both perpetrators were wearing bonnets and onboard a motorcycle without a plate number.
