Man kills self

CEBU, Philippines - For unknown reason, a 21-year-old laborer committed suicide by shooting himself while in a slaughter area in Hilltop, Barangay Poblacion, Dalaguete about 10:30 in the evening Sunday.

Felix Matugas Jr. was found dead with a lone gunshot wound to his head inside his nipa hut. Responding police officers recovered what appeared to be a suicide note written by the fatality thanking his parents for raising him.

SPO2 Clito Pia, police investigator, said prior the discovery of Felix Jr.’s body, his father, Felix Matugas Sr., heard gunshots from his son’s house situated about 20 meters away from where he live.

Pia said that Rey, older brother of the victim who was sleeping nearby was awaken by the bursts of gunfire and saw Felix collapsed beside him bleeding.

Matugas Sr. immediately sought assistance from medico legal officer, Dr. Jose Edgar Alonzo, who pronounced the victim dead. 

Aside from the victim’s suicide note, policemen recovered from the scene one unit of .357 caliber revolver marked Smith and Wesson containing five pieces .38 live ammunitions and one empty shell of .38 caliber inside the cylinder.

Parents of the victim admitted that for the past few days they noticed Felix Jr. was quiet and alone in a corner and refused to answer if ask for his problems.

“Borong man gud kuno ning bataa,” Pia said, adding they are still in the process of confirming if the recovered suicide note was indeed written by the victim.

“I-check namo kay naa’y portion man gud nga nabasa dili na kaayo nako mabasa,” Pia told The FREEMAN over the phone.

Items recovered from the scene were brought to the Dalaguete Police Station for evidentiary purposes. (FREEMAN NEWS)
