CEBU, Philippines -    As expected, yesterday’s elections of the Barangay Councilors League of the Philippines (BCLP) – Cebu City Chapter went smoothly with no one to oppose the running candidates.

At least 305 councilmen attended yesterday’s elections at the Ecotech Center in Barangay Lahug. There are 560 councilmen in Cebu City and 281 are needed to declare a quorum.

“The election runs very smoothly. Mao ra ni nga election ang pinakasayon kay wala man bisan usa kontra,” said Department of Interior and Local Government 7 Director Patricio Gabuya.

The running candidates only needed one vote each to be declared winner.

They are Franklin Ong of Kasambagan, president; Reynaldo Zamora of Sta. Cruz, executive vice president; Eddie Cabulao of Tisa, vice president for the south; Rey Francisco of Carreta, vice president for the north; Garry Lao of Tejero, secretary; Dionilo Yap of Cogon Ramos, treasurer; and Joey Sadaya of Zapatera, auditor.

The members of the board for the north and south districts include Rex Millan of Kalubihan, Joanne Baybaton of Lorega San Miguel, Mark dela Cruz of Mabolo, Rey Lauron of Cambinocot, Sidney Tabucal of Sawang Calero, Eusebia Eslanan of Sinsin, Oliver Ocampo of Kalunasan, and Rafael Brioner of Tinago.

South District Representative and former mayor Tomas Osmeña and North District Representative Rachel “Cutie” del Mar also attended the elections.

Yesterday’s election was the first time in Cebu City that the candidates ran uncontested.

In an interview with The FREEMAN, Ong said the new officers will continue what former BCLP president Manuel Guanzon has started, especially in the field of sports development.

“Kung unsa ang nasugdan ni Dodong Guanzon, atong padayonon,” Ong said.   - (THE FREEMAN)
