Twins conjoined at the head expire minutes after delivery

CEBU, Philippines - A conjoined twins sharing a single head died few minutes after they were prematurely delivered in a private clinic in Barangay South Poblacion Naga yesterday morning.

A 21-year old mother, whose name was withheld by the staff nurses of Line In Maternity Clinic, walked into the clinic at 9:00 a.m. supposedly to have her prenatal check-up.

However, the mother who is only six months pregnant suddenly complained of severe pain in her abdomen and showed signs of labor prompting the nurses to take her into the delivery room.

The mother delivered the female conjoined twins sharing one head and weighed 1.1 kilograms normally. But the babies expired few minutes later.

The nurse who requested anonymity said that the babies were supposed to be normal twins but were not properly developed inside the mother’s womb. According to the nurse, the husband told them that his wife’s relatives have twins.

“Unya kanang dunay kaliwat nga manganak og kaluha, dili layo nga ang ilang ubang kaliwat makaanak usab og kaluha,” the nurse said. (FREEMAN)
