Man stabbed dead in drinking spree

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A man died after he was stabbed by one of his drinking buddies in Barangay Poblacion Pardo Sunday afternoon.

Police said Carlito Garces of Carbon Public Market suffered from several stab wounds in the different parts of his body.

The suspect, Antonio Amaba, Jr. alias “Boy Ongo,” 47 was arrested by elements of Pardo Police Station during a hot pursuit operation.

Prior to the incident, around 2:30 p.m., the victim was reportedly having a drinking spree with Antonio Ponce and Samuel Yasaña inside a videoke house at Sitio Lower Tabucanal when the suspect, a welder, joined them.

At the height of their drinking session, a verbal altercation ensued between the victim and the suspect.

Ponce and Yasaña told police the victim then left but stopped first to urinate. They were about to follow him when they saw the suspect going after the victim and stabbed the latter repeatedly before fleeing.

Paramedics from the Barangay Pardo Emergency Rescue found the lifeless body of the victim lying on his back with multiple stabbed wounds on his chest and neck. A knife was recovered near the victim.

Pardo Police conducted a hot pursuit operation and arrested the suspect near the crime scene. A charge or murder was filed against the suspect yesterday before the prosecutor’s office.

Meanwhile, the man who stabbed dead a PUJ conductor in Barangay Talamban last Thursday surrendered to a police officer yesterday morning.

Federico Limoran, 36, resident of the place, admitted stabbing Jerlan Gonzales, 30, who succumbed to stabbed wounds on his neck and armpit. The suspect surrendered to Insp. Delfin Bontuyan of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7.

Limoran, in an interview with reporters yesterday, said he was prompted to stab the victim after he punched him on the head while he was walking towards a store near the area to buy food around 6 a.m.

He admitted he and the victim engaged in a verbal altercation few months ago when he complained to the victim of the change he got after paying for his fare on the jeepney.

“Nagkalalis mi tungod sa pamasahe, nya iya siguro ko gitiman-an, kalit lang ko niya gisumbag ato sa akong ulo. Nya ga-dala-dala man ko pirmi og kutsilyo panghiwa sa baboy sa akong gitrabahuan, akong gidunggab niya,” the suspect said.

After the stabbing, he said he wanted to surrender to Bontuyan, who resides near the area but was told that the police official was in Manila. He went to Bohol to hide and decided to surrender yesterday.

A charge for murder is now being prepared against the suspect.   (FREEMAN NEWS)
