Two dead in Lapu-Lapu stabbing

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - Two were killed in a commotion among relatives at sitio Pakpakan, barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday about 6:00 in the morning.

Victims Edgardo Sabroso, 40, shell craft owner and his brother-in-law Jerry Melecio, 26, a native of Leyte, sustained multiple stab wounds in different parts of their bodies.

They did not reach the Mactan Doctor’s Hospital alive.

Police investigation disclosed that before the stabbing happened, Melecio called Edgardo from outside their house.

Melinda Sabroso, wife of Edgardo, told her brother that Edgardo was still sleeping.

But Melecio, who was already armed with a kitchen knife, went directly inside the house and stabbed Edgardo several times.

Melinda shouted for help and woke her son, Melchor, 20. Melecio tried to stab him but Melchor was able to grab the knife and stabbed Melecio in the chest and stomach.

Melchor surrendered to the responding police officers and is detained at the police stockade.

Edgardo’s body was taken to the Westland Memorial Homes while Melecio’s body is now at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes.

Policemen recovered the 11-inch knife used in the stabbing.

Police Officer 1 Junard Cinco of the Homicide Section at the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) said that Melecio held a grudge against Edgardo, who scolded him for not doing his job well. Melecio was working at Edgardo’s shell craft factory.

Cinco said they are still waiting for the family of the victim to file appropriate charges. — (FREEMAN)
