CEBU, Philippines - Assorted firearms and ammunition were confiscated from two men in Carcar and in Asturias last Wednesday.
In Carcar, police arrested Harold Wariza, 28, a resident of Barangay Liburon, after they confiscated from him a .38 cal. revolver, six live .38 cal. rounds, a holster, three pieces of hand-rolled tissue paper, two pieces of hand-rolled tin foil and a disposable lighter.
He is now detained in the Carcar police stockade.
Carcar investigator Reynaldo Fuentes said that they received a telephone call from a concerned citizen from Sitio Lumboy, Barangay Liburon about 4:45 p.m. about an armed man who made threatening gestures with his gun.
The caller said Wariza kept aiming his gun in different directions.
Wariza was immediately arrested by responding policemen while the gun was taken to the Firearms Explosives Security Service Agency and Guards Supervisory Section.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 8294 or illegal possession of firearm and of RA 9165 for possession of drug paraphernalia were filed by the police against Wariza yesterday.
Meanwhile, another man was arrested for illegal possession of firearms in Barangay Sta. Rita, Asturias, about 11:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Esrael Gemarino, 42, a resident of Sitio Egay, Barangay Sta. Rita., is now detained in the Asturias police stockade.
Confiscated from Gemarino’s possession were a .357 revolver, a .38 cal. revolver, both without serial numbers, and a dozen .38 cal. rounds.
A concerned citizen informed the police station after he saw Gemarino armed with the guns.
Police officers said that Gemarino was cooperative during their arrest and did not resist. (FREEMAN)
