Chief tanod hangs self

CEBU, Philippines - The Barangay Intelligence Network chief of Ibo, Toledo City, was found dead yesterday morning after committing suicide.

Venecio Bobilles, 50, hung himself from a tree just a few meters away from his house with the use of a nylon rope.

Formisa Bobilles, 19, daughter of the victim said that she was about to cook that morning when she noticed a body hanging from the tree.

Formisa went to check and found out that the body was that of her father. She immediately called their neighbors who called the police station for help.

Formisa said that she saw her father cutting the nylon rope in their backyard a night before the victim committed suicide.

She alleged that her father had been suffering from an illness of the bones of his toes which could be the reason why the victim committed suicide.

She added that she noticed her father’s depression a week before he died.

Toledo police chief Jovito Canlapan said Venecio was a silent person and they did not have any idea that he was suffering an illness.

“Hilumon ra na siya ngari kay tig-arian mana siya sa opisina,” Canlapan said.

The cadaver of the victim was taken to the St. Francis Funeral Homes in Toledo City for autopsy. – (FREEMAN)
