CEBU, Philippines - A father, who tried to pacify an argument between his two stepsons, ended up stabbing to death one of the two.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon in barangay Banhigan, Badian, southern Cebu.
Melchor Indig, 24, was wounded at the upper left part of his back. He was immediately assisted by the municipal health officer but died minutes later.
Arrested and detained in the Badian Police Stockade was Domingo Suerte, 48, and live-in partner of Emiliana Indig, 70, mother of the victim.
Melchor and his older brother Maximo, 38, were drinking with Suerte in their neighbor’s house when the brothers argued. Suerte was able to pacify the two.
Upon walking home, Melchor and Maximo again had an argument and later, a fistfight. Suerte intervened again but Melchor pulled a knife tucked in his waist.
Melchor stabbed Maximo but missed. Suerte grabbed the knife and there was a commotion.
Suerte got hold of the knife and stabbed Melchor’s back. He then fled.
Emiliana saw the incident and called their neighbors for help.
Badian investigator PO3 Joel Caballero told The Freeman that when they arrived, Melchor was already lying in a pool of blood.
Municipal Health Officer Dra. Urduja Espiritu tried to help but Melchor already lost too much blood.
Suerte surrendered to the police station last Monday.
PO3 Caballero said that Emiliana refused to file a case against her live-in partner but other members of the family pursued the filing of homicide case before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office. – (FREEMAN)
