CEBU, Philippines - For not wearing a helmet, a man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving rammed into a metal railing along the national highway in Barangay Legaspi, Alegria town Saturday afternoon.
Police said Dione Apares, 27, a resident of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, sustained severe head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the Reinhard Wertgin Memorial Hospital.
SPO1 Renato Abellar said Apares was driving an XRM Honda motorcycle bearing plate numbers GO-3088 from Barangay Poblacion heading towards Barangay Legaspi.
Apares was allegedly traveling on a high speed while approaching a blind curve when one of the tires of his motorcycle slipped on the slippery road due to the continuous rainfall.
The victim then lost control of his motorcycle causing it to ram into the metal railing on the roadside before he was slammed on the ground and hit his head on the cement road.
Residents who saw the accident rushed the victim to the nearest hospital where he was declared dead by the attending physician.
Abellar said the victim suffered from serious head injury for not wearing a helmet.
“What happened was naturally an accident but as a defensive driver careful nalang gyud unta,” Abellar said.
The police said the said place is considered an accident prone area and there is a signage before reaching the blind curve. – (FREEMAN)
