Man charged for rape of girl, 12

- Mylen P. Manto -

CEBU, Philippines - A man was charged on two counts of child abuse after he was accused of sexually abusing the daughter of his helper.

While the 12-year-old girl said the accused abused her several times, she could no longer remember the dates of all the incidents, but she could remember one in particular.

Based on the statement of the girl, she was watching television last May 1, 2010 around 8 a.m. in the house of the accused Basan Amora, in Sitio Puntod Alaska, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, when the accused approached her and told her to go upstairs.

She said he eventually grabbed her and forcibly brought her upstairs to a comfort room where the accused sexually abused her.

After he had finished, the accused allegedly told her to climb down and out of the house from the rooftop access while he went outside.

However, when the victim was about to climb down a woman saw her and asked what Amora did to her.

After the victim told the woman what had happened the woman brought her to the garage where her mother was and the victim repeated her story to her mother.

Assistant Prosecutor Ruso Zaragosa sent a subpoena to the accused to submit his counter-affidavit but the latter did not file any.

Zaragosa said that he found probable to elevate the charges as it is unlikely the 12-year-old is fabricating the allegations.

“What she stated was really a truthful account on how the accused molested her,” Zaragosa said.

Prosecutor recommended no bail for the accused, who is also the president of the Sto. Niño Vendors Association. – (FREEMAN)
