Priority barangays identified for road projects

CEBU, Philippines - The city’s Department of Enginee-ring and Public Works has identified 28 mountain barangays and two urban barangays with “mountainous portions” as priority areas for its road concreting and asphalting project.

The city has allocated P100 million for the road concreting project and another P100 million for the asphalting project.

For the road concreting project, each barangay has a budget of P3.3 million, which will cover 1,940 square meters. Each square meter costs P1,718.

These barangays include Toong, Buhisan, Pamutan, Buot-Taup, Sinsin,Sudlon-I, Sudlon-II, Bonbon, Sapangdaku, Kalunasan, Babag, Pung-ol Sibugay, Tabunan, Tagba-o, Taptap, Malubog, Budla-an, San Jose, Pulangbato, Sirao, Binaliw, Guba, Adlaon, Lusaran, Cambinocot, Paril, Mabini, Agsungot, Banilad and Guadalupe.

Meanwhile, the barangays prioritized for the road asphalting project have been grouped into four clusters. Cluster I includes streets in Calamba, Capitol Site, Punta Princessa and Cogon-Pardo and Kinasang-an. Cluster II includes streets in Zapatera, Duljo Fatima and San Nicolas Proper. Cluster III includes streets in Talamban, Bacayan, Pit-os, Mabolo, Pari-an, Tinago, San Roque, Sto. Niño, and Ermita. Cluster IV includes the streets of Kamagayan, San Antonio and Sta. Cruz.

The barangays were selected after inspection of the areas. The DEPW also considered the requests of the barangays.

The budget for the projects were appro-priated under Supplemental Budget No. 5 amounting P1,306,954,546 which the City Council passed last November 2010.

When the budget was passed, it was agreed that lump sum appropriations will have to pass through the council for review. It will be subject for bidding once approved by the Council. – (FREEMAN)
