CEBU, Philippines - A 33-year-old man met his untimely death when he was electrocuted while repairing the roll-up door of a cellphone shop at the Consolacion public market past 7pm last Friday.
The fatality was identified as Jovan Baklaan, a resident of Barangay Upper Tipolo, Mandaue City. Baklaan was with his co-worker Rolly Antipolo, 30, when the incident happened.
Both are employees of Kima Glass Supply Co. Inc. based in Mandaue City.
PO3 Alen Garciano of the Consolacion Police said the two were starting to climb up a scaffold when Antipolo felt some electrical current on the structure. Sensing that the scaffold might have been grounded, he immediately jumped off to avoid getting electrocuted.
Baklaan, however, was not very lucky as he reportedly got “trapped” on the store’s signage and got electrocuted.
“Una nakabantay si Rolly na grounded ang ilang saka-an maong nakalayat dayun siya. Apan si Jovan wala dayun kabantay. Unya mulayat na unta siya apan na trap man siya sa usa ka signage,” Garciano said.
The two were brought to the Eversley Child Sanitarium and Hospital in Mandaue City, but Baklaan was declared dead on arrival.
Police said it is possible that a live wire connected to the scaffold caused it to be grounded. (FREEMAN)
