Fine weather during first "Suroy-Suroy"

-

CEBU, Philippines - It seemed the weather has cooperated during yesterday’s staging of the first Suroy-Suroy Sugbo this year.

The Suroy-Suroy Northern Escapade kicked off from the Capitol on a fine sunny day following days of continuous rains since last week.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and members of the Provincial Board led the delegation, which included 246 paying guests, towards northern towns starting with Consolacion, where guests took their breakfast and witnessed a cultural presentation.

The delegation was onboard five air-conditioned buses, six vans and other vehicles.

After Consolacion, the delegation then visited Compostela and Danao City. After taking lunch in Carmen, it proceeded to Sogod and Medellin.

Guests were billeted at different resorts in San Remegio last night. After breakfast today, the group will cross to Bantayan Island, which is composed of the towns of Santa Fe, Bantayan and Madridejos.

The organizers earlier said the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo, which will run until January 21, would proceed as scheduled despite the bad weather.

Visitors include members of Philippine Bisayan Society of Nevada in the United States, Southern Island Hospital Alumni Batch 1966 and other individuals.

Other tourists will no longer be joining the group to Bantayan Island due to the limited number of rooms.

While in Bantayan, the group will visit the Ogtong Cave in Santa Fe town, and Kota Park and the Lambayan Farm in Madridejos town. In nearby Bantayan town, they will be treated with another cultural presentation.

Tomorrow, the delegation will head back to the mainland, proceeding to Bogo City and towns of Tabogon, Borbon and Catmon. It will have culminating program in Liloan. –  (FREEMAN)
