CHAC moves deadline for nominations

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - The Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CHAC) is extending the deadline of submission of nominations for the 2011 Search for Outstanding Individuals and Institutions.

The Search for Oustanding Individuals and Institutions is in line with next month’s celebration of the 74th Cebu City Charter day.

City Councilor Margot Osmeña, chairperson of the committee on tourism and historical affairs, said the deadline was previously set for December 15, 2010 but has been moved to January 26, 2011.

The nomination forms were distributed as early as October to different City Hall departments, city officials, barangay officials, nongovernment offices and civic organizations.

Osmeña said the CHAC decided to extend the deadline after they received only three nominees for outstanding individuals and three nominees for outstanding institutions.

The criteria for outstanding institutions include having contributed to the growth, development and programs of the city and its people; having helped the City Government directly in the delivery of the basic services and other services to the people.

Nominees for outstanding individuals must be at least three years resident of the city and has gained great honor for Cebu in general and for himself.

As an outstanding individual, he or she must have shown integrity of character in office or in personal calling or profession.

All nominees are subject to screening by the CHAC and deliberation by the City Council for approval. (FREEMAN)
