Wanted man stabbed in Toledo

CEBU, Philippines - A 21-year-old man who had a pending warrant for murder was stabbed to death by his drinking buddy while having a party at sitio Daspo, barangay Lotupan last Saturday evening.

Marvin Abella sustained four wounds and the police are still trying to determine who stabbed him.

Abella attended a New Year’s party held inside the basketball court when he and his friend had an argument with someone as they were already drunk.

PO3 Alfredo Barquin of Lotupan Police Community Precinct said that it was impossible for witnesses not to identify the suspect since the drinking buddies of Abella were only his cousins.   Barquin said that Abella had a pending warrant of arrest of a murder case which was issued a year ago.

“Idlas lang kaayo ni siya unya karon nga nakit-an na namo patay na,” he said.

He said the residents of the place were very uncooperative, giving them difficulties with their investigation.

“Maglagot mi ana nila diha kay dili gyud mo-cooperate nga murag mangahadlok,” he said.

Abella’s body is now at the Celestial Funeral Parlor in Toledo City.

Meanwhile in Moalboal, the New Year’s Eve was unlucky for a 60-year-old man who was shot dead by an unidentified assailant while he was on his way to check his domesticated cow at the back of his house at barangay Tomonoy.

Cirilo Goles, 60, was about to check on his cow that recently gave birth when he was shot several times.

Responding police officers tried to rush him to the Badian District Hospital but the attending physician declared him dead on arrival due to gunshot wounds in his abdomen, stomach and in his left hand.

Moalboal investigator PO2 Edgar Montalaba told The FREEMAN that Demson, the victim’s son, rushed to his father’s aid and saw the gunman but he could not figure out his identity as the area was dark.

      Policemen recovered a slug of a revolver on the crime scene while another slug was found stuck on the door.

Montalaba said they are now investigating issues over lot ownership as the victim had quarreled with a lot of people over it. — (FREEMAN)
