Dry run for new traffic plan awaited

- Jose P. Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - Starting next year, the Mandaue City Traffic Enforcement and Management will start the dry run next month for the proposed rerouting of vehicles passing along United Nations Avenue, Plaridel, and A.C. Cortes Avenue.

Mandaue City Councilor Tony Dabon, chairman of the committee on transportation, said the dry run will commence after the city council, through a resolution, authorizes the traffic body to start the dry run.

The proposed resolution granting TEAM authority to implement the dry run was calendared for discussion last Wednesday, but due to lack of quorum, no session was held.

Dabon said the city council will prioritize next year, the approval of the resolution.

Data collected from the dry run will be submitted to the city council to be used as basis for the approval of the proposed ordinance to implement the permanent rerouting of vehicles.

Vehicles that will be affected by the rerouting will come from Lapu-Lapu City and Northern Cebu.

Businessmen have been complaining about the traffic problem in Mandaue City especially along United Nations Avenue and Plaridel St.

Most businessmen who have aired their concerns are those that pass through Mandaue City bound for the airport in Lapu-Lapu City. –(FREEMAN)
