CEBU, Philippines - The municipality of Consolacion planted tree seedlings yesterday in barangay Polog, the place where a sanitary landfill will soon open.
Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado and Vice Mayor Aurelio Damole, who led the tree planting, were joined by town officials, department heads, and regular as well as casual employees.
Other participants included Sangguniang Bayan members Alfred Francisc Ouano, Julius Alegado, Nilo Ferraren, Brandon Cuizon, and newly-installed president Marilou Casul of the Association of Barangay Councils of Consolacion.
The sanitary landfill in barangay Polog was inaugurated last week by the town and Asian Energy Systems Corporation.
Aside from addressing the garbage in the town and neighboring cities and municipalities, the landfill will also produce power from garbage.
The Manila-based company purchased more than ten hectares of property in barangay Polog specifically for the sanitary landfill.
Earlier, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia lauded the partnership forged by the town and Asian Energy Systems Corporation. (FREEMAN NEWS)
