Three dead in shooting incidents

CEBU, Philippines - Three were killed in separate shooting incidents in Cebu province over the weekend.

In Talisay City, a 50-year-old man died after he was shot for mauling the suspect’s nephew at 7th St. Plainville, barangay Bulacao Saturday evening.

Restituto Villanueva, a resident of sitio Mananga, barangay Tabunok, sustained two gunshot wounds in the head. He was rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital but declared dead on arrival.

His assailant, Ramil Hornada, 33, surrendered to the responding police officers.

Police investigation disclosed that Villanueva was drunk when he went to visit his brother, Francisco Villanueva, at sitio Paglaum when he passed by Hornada’s group who were drinking along the road.

Villanueva suddenly stopped and without provocation mauled Wilfredo Kuratsa, 25, a resident of sitio Agsungot, Pit-os, barangay Talamban, Cebu City and nephew of Hornada.

Kuratsa sustained bruises in the face but was able to escape from Villanueva’s grip and ran.

Villanueva was allegedly about to maul Hornada when Hornada pulled out his .38 revolver and shot Villanueva twice.

In Sibonga, a joke ended a security guard’s life after he was shot dead by his best friend at L. Mercado St., barangay Poblacion at about 9:45 in the evening Friday.

Maximo Encarnacion Jr., 42, suffered from several gunshot wounds in his face and both legs. The suspect, William Solis, immediately fled.

PO3 Antonio Sanchez of Sibonga Police Station said Encarnacion and Solis were drinking while making fun of each other.

Also last Friday evening, a wife was shot dead by her husband at sitio Das Highway, barangay Lutopan, Toledo City.Magdalina Largo, 37, had a gunshot wound in the head after she was shot by Rolando Largo, 60, inside their house.

PO3 Alfredo Barquin of the Toledo Police Station said that their children heard a gun shot before seeing their mother lying bloodied on the floor, but they did not hear the couple having an argument.

The couple has been separated for 10 years now. Magdalina lived with her parents at Tuburan, leaving her three children in the custody of Rolando.

Magdalina arrived last week to celebrate Christmas with their children.  (FREEMAN)
