Road mishaps kill man, injure 2 others
CEBU, Philippines - A man died on the spot after the motorcycle he was driving rammed into a traffic sign along the national highway in Barangay Liloan in the southern town of Santander last Sunday afternoon.
The driver, Vher Noterte, 21, a resident of barangay Looc, died due to a major injury on the head. Witnesses said Noterte did not notice the traffic sign when maneuvering a curve. He was reportedly drunk at that time.
PO2 Noel Estender of the Santander Police Station said Noterte went to a benefit dance the night before and was drinking with friends until the next morning on Sunday. He left the place almost midday on board his XRM 125 motorcycle with plate number 7C-AL-1234 and was heading home when the incident occurred. Responding policemen found Noterte on the ground covered in his own blood. His remains lie at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Santander.
Meanwhile, a four-year-old boy landed in the hospital after he was hit by a motorcycle while walking beside the road in barangay Poblacion, Santander last Sunday morning.
The Honda Wave motorcycle with plate number 6351 GT was driven by Marvin Resalbon, 18, a resident of barangay Bunlan in the same town.
The boy, Jomar Estatoy, a resident of barangay Poblacion, as well as Resalbon, suffered injuries. They were brought to the Oslob District Hospital. The motorcycle is temporarily placed under the custody of the police. (THE FREEMAN)
