LTO campaign in schools gets support

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - The Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) on-campus campaign to educate students eligible to secure a driver’s license about road safety consciousness and discipline has gained the support of a local legislator.

Cebu City Councilor Edgardo Labella, chairman of the committee on good government, said the agency’s campus caravan effort called the “YES! Move: Youth for Environment and Safety Movement” is laudable as it opens the eyes of the students on traffic violations that cause road accidents.

Labella said the campaign also educate high school students, both in the public and private schools, who are eligible drivers’ license holders, about possible road hazards and how to prevent them.

The YES! Move campaign uses comic strips, brochures and posters promoting road safety. The campaign materials will be distributed to students in gatherings wherein LTO officers, equipped with training modules, will be speaking about the “Dos and Don’ts” on the road.

The LTO is targeting at least 100 public and private high schools for the YES! Move campus caravan, which will stress the importance of quality drivers.

LTO Chief Virginia Torres said that many children become victims of road accidents because they are not aware of common traffic signs.

Under the YES campaign, the LTO will provide modules containing tips for safety, as well as audio-visual presentations on traffic rules.(FREEMAN)
