First 2 days of "Misa de Gallo"in CV peaceful
CEBU, Philippines - The first two days of the Misa de Gallo in Region 7 have been “generally peaceful,” Regional Police Director Ager Ontog said yesterday.
Ontog said no crime was reported in the past two days, which means police officers have successfully maintained peace and order in different churches across Central Visayas. The traditional “Misa de Gallo” started last December 16.
“I hope ma-maintain pa rin ang peace and order not only this Christmas,” Ontog said.
Yesterday, Ontog reminded law enforcement agencies under PRO7 to observe the Suspension of Police Operation (SOPO) against the New People’s Army (NPA).
The operation was launched to give both camps - the police and the NPA – the opportunity to spend quality time with their families during Christmas and New Year.
SOPO being implemented from December 16 until January 3, 2011.
Ontog, nevertheless, emphasized that the police will not let its guard down even with SOPO in place. He said policemen would still be deployed in different areas in Cebu to continue maintaining peace and order during the holidays.
Next week, the muzzle of firearms of policemen under PRO7 will be taped in line with its zero indiscriminate firing policy during Christmas and New Year. The Provincial Police Office started taping the muzzle of the firearms of its personnel yesterday.
With the policy, policemen may only use their firearms when the need arises or in self-defense. Those caught firing their guns indiscriminately will be charged administratively. (FREEMAN)
