CEBU, Philippines - A Korean national was injured after he was shot by two men who allegedly tried to rob him and his companions in barangay Kasambagan shortly before midnight yesterday.
The victim was identified as Kim Byung Ju, 21, a native of Suwon, South Korea and a temporary resident of barangay Kasambagan. Ju is a student of the Major Developing Language Center.
Investigation showed that the victim was walking home with three other Korean students Kim Yun Hee, Hong Min Sung and Kim Yu Ri when two men suddenly approached them and grabbed Hee’s shoulder.
Hee resisted and Ju intervened, but the one of the suspects shot the latter. The suspects then fled towards sitio Paray.
Ju was rushed to the Perpetual Soccour Hospital and is now in stable condition.
Responding personnel from the Crime Scene Investigation recovered two empty shells of a 9mm caliber pistol from the crime scene.
SPO4 Jesus Moga of the Homicide Section said the gunman has been identified from among the pictures in the rouges’ gallery, but withheld his name so as not to disrupt operations.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old man died after he was shot by an unidentified man believed to be a member of the notorious Crips gang past 10pm last Thursday. The incident happened in Barangay Kalunasan.
Julius dela Peña died from a lone gunshot wound on the left side of his body.
Prior to the incident, the victim was reportedly seen playing board games with his friends when his friend Vincent, a member of Bloods gang, arrived and asked that Dela Peña accompany him and their other friends to Unit 1 in Oppra purportedly to settle their differences with Crips.
They were walking towards Unit 1 when Dela Peña was by the suspect. He was shot brought to the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital, but passed away shortly thereafter. (FREEMAN)
