Cop who allowed prisoner out of jail faces charges

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - The police officer who escorted the detainee who escaped from Danao City jail on Friday evening is facing double charges – a criminal case of evasion through negligence and an administrative case for grave misconduct – said S/Insp. Rubin Cuizon of the Provincial Police Investigation Branch.

The charges against SPO3 Quirino Vasquez were filed yesterday before the City Prosecutor’s Office in Danao City.

The inmate, Ryan Zamora, 27, escaped after Vasquez allegedly allowed him to throw garbage about 9pm outside the detention cell. Zamora was arrested for qualified theft months ago with no less than his parents as complainants.

Prisoners reportedly told to clean their cells while guarded by their jail guards, but Zamora managed to escape when he noticed that Vasquez was far from him. He immediately boarded a motorcycle parked outside the police precinct. — THE FREEMAN
