Driver charged in P7.6M jeweler heist
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has indicted the driver of the getaway vehicle used by the five robbers who robbed a jeweler of P7.6M worth of cash and jewelries last year. Assistant City Prosecutor Simaco Labata found probable cause to elevate the case for robbery against Junjun Gamanay before the Regional Trial Court for allegedly conspiring with the five other robbers who were previously charged in court.
The prosecutor’s office recommended P100,000 bail for Gamanay’s temporary liberty.
Gamanay allegedly conspired with Frederick Ybañez, Jennifer Enriquez, Noel Davis, Jeromy Polistico and Kirby Abanilla in robbing Jennifer dela Cerna on July 21, 2009 in the afternoon Barangay Punta Princessa.
Ybañez, Enriquez, Davis, Polistico and Abanilla were immediately arrested after the robbery incident. Enriquez placed an order with dela Cerna amounting to more than P6 million and agreed to meet with her inside a fastfood chain located at the corner of Natalio Bacalso Avenue and F. Llamas St. Cebu City. Dela Cerna delivered the jewelries without knowing that she was just set up by Enriquez. When Dela Cerna gave the jewelries to Enriquez the latter already refused to accept it saying she does not have buyers anymore. Her cohorts however were already waiting outside for dela Cerna.
