Danao cop faces probe over inmate's escape

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Erson Digal will conduct an investigation on the police officer who escorted the detainee who escaped from the Danao City jail on Friday evening.

Digal said he will order today the chief of the Provincial Investigation Branch (PIB) Senior Inspector Rubin Cuizon to come up with their own investigation and to help the Danao City Police with their operation.

“Dili unta ingon piniriso sugo-suguon lang, kinahanglan pud ta maka-justify sa iyang liability,” he said.

Inmate Ryan Zamora, 27, and a resident of barangay Looc was able to escape after he was allowed to throw garbage escorted by SPO3 Quirino Vasquez at around 9:00 in the evening.

Zamora was arrested for qualified theft months ago wherein his parents served as complainants.

Prisoners were reportedly asked to clean their cells while guarded by their jail guards but when Zamora noticed that Vasquez was far from him, he ran and boarded a motorcycle parked outside the police precinct.

Vasquez chased the motorcycle driven by Carlito Barriga, who was also a prisoner who posted bail. The motorcycle grazed the gutter and fell so he was able to catch up. Unfortunately for him, he lost his grip of the two.

Danao Police Chief Inspector Eddie Recamara assures he will file a case against Vasquez for infidelity in the custody of a detainee.

Recamara said he will file the case today at the Municipal Trial Court. SPO3 Quirino Vasquez was placed in jail for a few hours last Friday but was released because of his hypertension. He is now restricted to the station.

“I-disiplina nako kay murag relax ra kaayo sila sa ilang trabaho,” he told The Freeman.

Recamara also directed his intelligence personnel to locate Zamora. (FREEMAN)
