Concert marks anti-trafficking day celebration
CEBU, Philippines - A night of music marks the celebration of the World Anti-Trafficking Day in Cebu with a concert organized by the Movement of Anti-Trafficking Advocates and the Visayan Forum Foundation Incorporated.
The concert dubbed as “Exodus! Rise up against human trafficking!” was held at the University of San Carlos Cultural Center last Friday. It featured the songs of worship from Psalm 151 and Island-Joe the skul of fish’s eska and reggae songs.
The activity was aimed at waking up the youth to help fight human trafficking by protecting women and children. It also encourages them to join the advocacy.
VFFI president and founder Ma. Cecil Flores-Oebanda calls for the strict implementation of the Republic Act 9208 otherwise known as the Anti-Trafficking Act.
“We are not for Sale! Kailangan labanan ang pagbebenta ng mga kababaihan at mga kabataan,” Oebanda said.
Oebanda expressed that anti-traffickers could be anywhere, and anyone can be a victim. These traffickers will persuade victims to join them, and promise to give a good life but then the real thing is, these victims will be sold as captives or slaves of sex and other abuses. (FREEMAN)
