CEBU, Philippines – In a 15-6 vote, the chief of barangay Dumlog was elected as the new Association of Barangay Councils president in yesterday's election held at the Talisay City People's Hall.
Charles Basillote, who is on his third term, defeated the opposition-backed Marlowe Dagohoy of barangay Biasong. Dagohoy, who served as auditor last term, got six of the supposed seven votes from his camp, as Teodoro Belleza of barangay Poblacion did not show up yesterday. Belleza was the group's bet for auditor but lost the post to Raul Cabañero of Bulacao.
Basillote, in an interview, said he already expected it to happen since from the very start they have the majority. There are 22 barangay chairmen in Talisay City.
Basillote said among his priority projects is the construction of the ABC building which has been a clamor of his fellow barangay chiefs.
"Gikapoy nasad mi balhin-balhin bisa'g asa, sa office ni mayor or sa laing opisina, para magsession. So maayo nga naa gyud mi amo nga building," he told the media.
Basillote, who is the eldest son of Councilor Dennis Basillote, also assured that being a representative of all 22 barangays in the city council, all their proposals would get to the council. (FREEMAN)
