7-vehicle mishap in Naga injures 10
CEBU, Philippines – Driver of 10-wheeler truck positive in liquor test. The truck hit all six vehicles at the opposite lane and a shanty before stopping at the wall of gas station. Two minors selling candies along the road were among those injured. Ten persons were injured, including a 1-year-old child, in a road mishap involving seven vehicles at Barangay Inayagan, Naga on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
A ten-wheeler truck heading south from Cebu City maneuvered to the left and hit six vehicles from the opposite lane. It also hit a shanty before stopping as crashed the wall of a Petron Gasoline Station.
The driver of the truck, Lucio Taborada of Balud, San Fernando, tested positive in the liquor test.
He escaped from police officers who responded to the accident in Naga but later surrendered to the San Fernando Police Station. He is now detained at the police stock-ade.
Injured were Ernesto Blanco, 31, of Mohon, Talisay City and driver of a public utility jeepney bearing plate number GWP 821. He was taken to the South General Hospital along with his seven passengers for treatment of the injuries they sustained.
Two children who were selling candies along the sidewalk were also injured when the truck hit a shanty. They were identified as Joane Sabosap, 10 and Jamaica Sabosap, 1.
The wall of a Petron gasoline station and a shanty owned by a certain Felix Lapitan were damaged by the wayward truck.
The other injured were Glenda Torrenueva, 33, of Velpal Minglanilla; Juliet Limbo, 28 of Cogon, Naga; Gilda Basanta, 37 and Jocelyn Echavez, 42 of Inayagan, Naga; Michael Randela, 31 of Mohon, Talisay City; Janice Gavini, 36 of Bacayan, Cebu City and Juliet Rubin, 28 of Inayagan, Naga.
Aside from the jeepney, other vehicles involved in the accident were a Suzuki multicab bearing plate number GPU 343 driven by Rogelio Nadela of sitio Bayong, Inayagan, Naga; an Isuzu Forwarder bearing plate number GTC 339 driven by Jonathan Cansanleo of Camp-2, Talisay City; a Toyota Corolla with plate number GLY 526 driven by Antonio Silvestre, an Isuzu Fuego with plate number GLY 698 driven by Ricky Canonego of barangay Lutak, Naga and a Natalie Tourist bus with plate number GWZ 994 driven by Danilo Tabotabo of Salamanca Taboso, Negros Occidental.
SPO4 George Canomon of the Naga Police Station that the 10-wheeler truck was traveling from Cebu City and bound for the south when it swerved to the left side, overtaking a vehicle.
It first hit the jeepney, and all six other vehicles after it.
SPO4 Canomon told The Freeman that Taborada was positive in the liquor conducted after the incident.
He is facing a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage of properties. (FREEMAN)
