CEBU, Philippines – Newly elected officials in Mandaue City were sworn into office the other day during a mass oath-taking ceremony administered by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes at the Cebu International Convention Center.
All 27 barangay captains who are now allied with the Cortes administration were present at the ceremony.
Almost 500 barangay councilors and the newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) presidents and their councilors from the different barangays also attended the activity.
The program started at 2 pm with a march participated by all of the newly elected officials and city councilors, Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, and Mayor Jonas Cortes.
A Holy Mass was held following the processional march which was officiated by Msgr. Arthur Navales.
After the Mass, the swearing in followed with sixth district Rep. Luis Gabriel Quisumbing, former Mandaue City Mayor Alfredo Ouano and city DILG director Joadin Lucero also in attendance.
In his speech, Cortes reminded newly elected officials that the public office is a public trust and that they are accountable to the people.
He also said the elected officials should deliver the needed basic services since they owe their positions to the people. (FREEMAN)
