Man shot dead in Danao; 3 men stabbed in Alcoy, Carmen
CEBU, Philippines – A man was shot dead in Danao City yesterday while three men were stabbed in separate incidents in Alcoy and Carmen towns last Sunday. The suspects in two of the three incidents are reportedly friends of the victims themselves.
In Danao City, the incident happened past 4am during a benefit dance in Barangay Looc. The victim, Keith Alfahora, 28, was taking a pee when the suspect, Ramil Barriga, shot him on the side.
SPO3 Aresteo Espina of the Danao Police said Alfahora and Barriga were still drinking together with some friends before the incident. Alfahora reportedly excused himself to urinate, but Barriga followed him and shot him.
"Mura'g nagkabangi ni sila tungod sa kahubog," SPO3 Espina said.
Alfahora's companions rushed him to the Danao District Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
No empty shells were seen at the crime scene. Espina said residents in the area refused to cooperate with the investigation.
"Mahadlok siguro sila balikan," he said.
Alfahora's family is set to file charges against Barriga.
Meanwhile, in Alcoy town, Jopel Avila, 20, sustained a wound on his left face when his friend, Reynaldo Medil, 24, stabbed him after the latter got irked when Avila allegedly told their friends that the suspect has tuberculosis.
The incident happened in Barangay Atabay last Sunday morning.
PO3 Emilio Carungay of Alcoy police station said that Medil got irked when Avila allegedly told their friends that he had tuberculosis.
"Nadunggan ra pud sa kaila nga naay tuberculosis kay daot man pud kaayo ning suspect," Carungay said.
Medil reportedly went to Avila's house to confront the latter, but the altercation ended with Medil pulling out his two-inch knife and stabbing Avila on the face.
Residents who saw the incident rushed Avila to RHU while Medil voluntarily surrendered to responding officers. Carungay said they placed Medil under detention, but subsequently released him after the victim's family refused to press charges.
Medil agreed to shoulder the expenses of Avila's medication.
In Carmen, a 61-year-old man was placed under arrest after he stabbed fellow customers in a videoke house reportedly without reason. The incident happened about 3am in Barangay Poblacion.
PO2 Dario Baguio of the Carmen Police said the suspect, Ruben Quiamco, and the victims, David Biejoc and Niño Suico, were drinking at separate tables in the videoke house. Suddenly, an intoxicated Quiamco reportedly approached the victims' table and stabbed the two men.
The other people in the bar immediately sought police assistance.
Biejoc, who suffered from a wound on his right arm, was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center while Suico, who sustained a wound on his stomach, was brought to the Cebu Doctors' Hospital.
Frustrated homicide charges are expected to be filed against Quiamco today. (FREEMAN)
