CEBU, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay yesterday said they are ready to evacuate Overseas Filipino Workers from South Korea.
This if the ongoing tension between North Korea and South Korea worsens.
Binay was here for the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers 36th National Convention and annual election held at the Cebu International Convention Center yesterday.
Binay said they are ready and already coordinated with the management of Philippine Airlines to ferry the OFWs home if need be.
There are around 60,000 Filipinos living or working in South Korea.
Last Tuesday, North Korea unleashed a barrage of artillery on a South Korean island near the disputed western border. The attack set buildings ablaze and killed at least two marines.
Meanwhile, yesterday's PICE convention theme was "PICE: Engineering for a Better Philippines".
The PICE National Board of Directors through the Convention Bureau and the National Secretariat hosted the event.
They also conducted the electoral college meeting where they elected the national directorate of PICE for 2011 and ratified the proposed amendments to their by-laws. - Mylen P. Manto and Mellanie C. Rosales/BRP (FREEMAN)
