Marijuana worth P.6 million uprooted in Badian

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - Police authorities uprooted 2,700 fully grown marijuana plants in Barangay Basiao, Badian town yesterday dawn.

Badian police chief Timmar Alam said the estimated worth of the marijuana plants they have uprooted is P675,000.

Alam, who led the Badian police operatives, said the illegal plants were found in Sitio Kang-aloy, Butong and in the barangay proper. No cultivator was arrested during the raid.

“Naay abtanan nga kamalig pero way gamit sa sulod, maglisod mi ug sulti kung kinsa gyu’y tag-iya,” he said.

Alam said the plantation was situated in a very secluded area wherein it is very difficult for law enforcers to notice. In fact, it was 15 kilometers away from the barangay road.

“Adto man gud ni itanom sa tambok nga yuta unya magkabkab pa maong lisud pud ni pangitaon,” he told The FREEMAN.

A police asset provided the tip prompting the law enforcers to verify the information.

“Asset namo sa una maoy ni-inform but wala nikuyog tungod kay nakadawat kuno sila og threats,” Alam said.

Alam said the latest haul was the second biggest anti-drug operation they have conducted against marijuana plantation in the town.

In 2006, the police also scored by having uprooted 15,000 marijuana plants in Barangay Sohoton. (THE FREEMAN)
