University of the Visayas now Center of Development for BA program
CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas has recently been named by the Commission on Higher Education as a Center of Development for the Business Administration program. Programs that are given the COD certification by CHED are considered at par with global standards.
UV Executive Vice President Dr. Jose “Dodong” R. Gullas said the certification will encourage the university administration and students to excel in their fields.
Aside from the Center of Development certification, CHED also awarded UV the Autonomous Status last July 15, 2010. The Autonomous Status, which lasts until July 14, 2013, was signed by CHED Chairman Emmanuel Y. Angeles. It was granted to the University for its “continuing exemplary performance in the trilogy of functions of higher education namely: instruction, research and public service and in recognition of the outstanding performance of its graduates, which manifest its genuine commitment to quality, excellence and global competitiveness.
The status exempts the university from the issuance of a Special Order for their graduates and frees the learning institution from regular monitoring and evaluation by the CHED.
The Autonomous Status also gives the university the privilege to determine and prescribe their own curricular programs to help their students become globally competitive, as well as offer new courses or programs in both the undergraduate and graduate levels without securing a permit or authority from CHED.
To encourage its students to excel, the UV administration will give students who become topnotchers a house and lot. Dr. Gullas said this reward for those who top board exams will surely be something that Visayanians will treasure.
The latest additions to the university’s list of topnotchers are Marine Deck Officers Board Exam 5th placer Marcos Yana Anino Jr., 10th placer Robert Almagro Mabulay and OIC 8th placer Brando Arcipe Urot.
During the latest Nursing Licensure Exams, UV student Marie Kathrina Torralba Tojong also placed eighth.
As a continuing service towards the Centennial celebration of the Don Vicente Gullas Memorial Hospital, Dr. Gullas also announced that the hospital will be giving a 50 percent discount on all services except for doctor’s fees and pharmacy services for everyone starting January 12, 2011, the birthday anniversary of the founder, Don Vicente Gullas. The discount will run until March 13, 2011, the birth anniversary of Inday Pining Gullas.
“Health is wealth. We would like to be a part of taking care of your health that’s why we are offering the 50 percent discount to everyone,” he said. (THE FREEMAN)
