CEBU, Philippines – The decomposing body of a woman that was found floating in a swamp in sitio Buot, barangay Punta Engano in Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday morning was finally identified by his family yesterday morning.
After she was shown some personal effects at the Cosmopolitan Funeral Parlor, Leonarda Marmojada, 38, said the dead was her sister, Jocelyn Barong, 28, a single mother with two children, who resided at sitio Bas Dako, barangay San Vicente in Olango island.
Cousin Gloria Aying said Barong left Olango island in the morning of October 31 to work in a cousin's house in barangay Gunob Lapu-Lapu City.
Last November 1, she told her cousin she was going home to Olango, because learned her barangay was to host a disco and she wanted to attend it.
Aying said her cousin, who was illiterate, was not familiar with Lapu-Lapu Cty. She rarely went to the city alone, Aying said.
Aying suspected Barong got lost on her way to a boat that would take her to Olango last Nov. 1.
SPO2 Rolito Jumaoas of the Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office has advised family members to have the dead woman's body autopsied.
Jumaoas said the place where the woman died is frequented by drug users in the area.
Barong's decomposing body was found by a shoe repairman who was about to relieve himself in the area.
Barong was wearing a yellow spaghetti blouse and underwear when found. She wasn't wearing a skirt or pants. (FREEMAN)
