CEBU, Philippines - Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has observed with amusement the reported disagreement among the members of the Liberal Party on whether or not to accept Daanbantayan Mayor Maria Luisa Loot as its new member.
Garcia said she could not help but be entertained by the fact that local LP could not agree among themselves.
“Hala paggubot usa mo diha, di ko mag-apil-apil anang inyong gubot,” Garcia said when sought for comment about Loot’s impending transfer to LP.
While LP provincial chairman and Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. is very much eager to take Loot into the party, other party officials and members wanted to hold a consultation first.
Daanbantayan Councilor Gilbert Arabis said the local party members were not aware that Loot is joining them.
“As far as LP members of Daanbantayan are concerned, we have not discussed that matter yet. We can only hope that the LP hierarchy will do consultations among its party members before deciding the matter,” Arabis said in a text message to The FREEMAN last night.
Loot is reportedly bolting in to the LP bringing along with her all the town councilors and 98-percent of the barangay officials after a fallout with Garcia.
She is also planning to bring along her son, Provincial Board Member Sun Shimura, if he is not treated well by the One Cebu Party of Garcia, when she take her oath on November 10.
Loot’s impending shift of allegiance to LP however surprised the party’s district chairman and Bogo Mayor Celestino Martinez Jr.
Martinez said he is not aware of Loot’s scheduled oath taking on November 10 because he was not told about it. As district chairman of LP in the fourth district, Martinez said he should be informed.
However, Martinez said the national party leadership did not have any information regarding it. He added that there was also no consultation among its members about it.
Sanchez however welcomed Loot. (FREEMAN NEWS)
