To pull the plug on robberies: Jonas to install cameras in city
CEBU, Philippines – In response to a series of robberies in Mandaue City, Mayor Jonas Cortes said yesterday cctv cameras will be installed in strategic points in the city.
Cortes said the installation of cameras will accompany the installation of 14 new traffic lights in major intersections.
Cortes said he is not dismayed with the performance of Mandaue City Police Office director PSr./Supt Noel Gillamac because all these cases were immediately solved.
The mayor will meet with Gillamac soon.
Gillamac said he has come up with new strategies to prevent crimes.
He said that during their meeting at the Police Regional Office-7 yesterday, police officials agreed to share information with one another and that no one should be left alone to solve crimes.
Gillamac said the Regional Intelligence Office and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) will help in identifying suspects and solving crimes.
The police director also said he will join today's monthly meeting of barangay captains in the city to introduce his plan to revive the community police since the election is over.
Gillamac plans to detail a community policeman in every barangay to assist village watchmen who are the barangay's first line of defense.
For this month alone, at least four robberies were pulled in the city, the first being the LBC courier service at A.S Fortuna Street.
Five days later, the Banco Maximo along A.O. del Rosario in barangay Guizo was also robbed by four men who fled with P30,000.
Three days after, Boston hardware along Hernan Cortes Street was robbed by three men on a motorcycle.
The latest victim was a furniture firm at Plaridel Street which lost P250,000 to two robbers. (FREEMAN)
