Suspect in drive-by shooting arrested
CEBU, Philippines – The Investigative and Detective Management Bureau (IDMB) arrested a man Monday after some members of the Crips gang linked him to the drive-by shooting last Sunday dawn which killed a 16-year-old member and wounded another member.
Jay Loberanes, 24, was arrested inside his residence at Dasco Road in barangay Paknaan, Mandaue City Monday morning after members of the Crips gang pointed to him as the gunman of the rival gang called "Bloods."
Loberanes was arrested on the strength of a pending arrest warrant issued by Judge Ulric Canete of the RTC branch 55 for his involvement in a robbery case.
IDMB Chief P/Insp. Ramil Morpos said after his arrest Monday morning, Loberanes was presented to witnesses but none of them could tell it was he who pulled the trigger which killed Jessa dela Cruz, 16, and wounded Allan Paul Zamora.
However, Morpos said Loberanes will remain detained because of his alleged involvement in a robbery.
Morpos said after the shooting took place, Jayson Cuizon, 25, another member of the Crips gang was arrested after the police were tipped off that the Crips gang was poised to even the score.
Morpos said the police saw Cuizon attempting to hide his .22 magnum pistol on a shelf outside of the store where fellow members moments ago had a few drinks.
Cuizon is detained at the police station pending the filing charges for gun possession and for violation of the Comelec gun ban. (FREEMAN)
