Habal-habal driver in Minglanilla shot

CEBU, Philippines – A habal-habal (slang for motorcycle taxi) driver was shot and wounded at dawn yesterday in sitio lower in barangay Lipata, Minglanilla Cebu.

Jesus Unabia, 31, of sitio Sandayong in barangay Lipata sustained a gunshot wound on his back.

Police said at around 3:30 a.m., a man boarded Unabia's motorcycle and asked to be taken to barangay Lipata.

In Lipata, the passenger told Unabia to wait because he has to get the money from his house to pay for his fare.

A few minutes have passed and the passenger had not returned.

Unabia decided to follow the man to his house to claim the fare.

And then he was shot.

Residents who heard the gunfire went out of their houses to check and then saw Unabia bloodied.

They took him to the Minglanilla District Hospital but was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City.
