Soldiers find guns in San Fernando
CEBU, Philippines – Army soldiers who were sent to San Fernando town for yesterday's elections found the previous night at least three firearms in a house in barangay Balungag.
Men from the 78th Infantry Battalion became suspicious when a man suddenly left an unfinished house.
The men checked the house and discovered the firearms.
Team leader of the Bravo Company of 78th IB 1st Lt. Ian Adre Fabellon said they found a home-made caliber 9mm Ingram whose magazine had 17 rounds and two caliber .357 revolvers with 12 bullets.
The guns were turned over to the San Fernando Police.
Chief of police Insp. Carlos Reyes said the owner of the house, Bernardino Canoy, denied having knowledge of the firearms.
Reyes said they are trying to establish the identity of the who they found leaving the house in haste.
Reyes suspect arms are being smuggled into the town. He also said the police had arrested some men for gun possession during the May elections. (FREEMAN)
