Nurse shot dead in Guadalupe
CEBU, Philippines – A registered nurse who had just cast his vote was shot by his neighbor in sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Guadalupe midday yesterday.
Rey Tuñacao, 49, died of three gunshot wounds on his neck, right temple, and nape. He was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center, but was declared dead on arrival.
SPO4 Alex Dacua of the Homicide Section said Tuñacao parked his multicab about 100 meters from his house when he was shot by Estelito "Lito" Estrada, a noted "toughie" at the place.
Dacua said personal grudge might be the motive behind the incident, as the victim and the suspect figured in a fistfight about three months ago.
"That time, naa'y naglabog ug basura gawas sa ilang (victim's) balay 'nya gibadlong sa biktima. Ang suspect kay diha man, mao'y mingpalit sa away. Gilabayan siya ug botelya sa biktima ug mao to, nahimong sumbagay nila," Dacua said.
Dacua said the suspect, who fled right after the incident, may have used a revolver because there were no empty shells recovered from the crime scene.
Estrada reportedly fled on board a motorcycle-for-hire. Neighbors of the victim and suspect would reportedly often see Estrada tucking a caliber .357.
Police tried to search for Estrada at his possible hiding places, but did not find him. (FREEMAN)
