CCAIB raids downtown, seizes pornographic DVDs

CEBU, Philippines – The Cebu City Anti-Indecency Board yesterday seized thousands of pornographic DVDs sold at the downtown area.

CCAIB chairman Dr. Lucille Mercado led the team of policemen and personnel from the city treasurer's office during the raid at around 3:00 p.m. inside the Vision theater compound.

The team, which was divided into two groups, swooped down the compound and confiscated 3, 250 pieces of pornographic DVDs.

"This time we will be penalizing them. For any stalls na makitan natu na namaligya ug porn DVD's they will be penalized," Mercado said.

A similar raid was also conducted by CCAIB last week wherein a total of 3,500 pornographic DVD's were seized.

Even if the stalls subject of the raid were selling pirated DVDs which is also illegal, but CCAIB operatives only confiscated the pornographic movies and materials.

Some stall-owners who noticed the presence of CCAIB operatives ahead were able to close their shops even before the team could search their stalls.

"Nganung manira man ka if you are not hiding anything? So i-apil jud to nato sila ug fine," Mercado assured.

One of the store owners admitted that when CCAIB raided them last week they were already warned not to sell pornographic materials.

But despite the warning most of them continue to sell pornographic DVD's.

All the confiscated DVD's will be destroyed at 11 a.m. today with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama in front of the City Hall. (FREEMAN)
